News 4 Jax visited our school campus on Tuesday, February 21st to spotlight student Viktoriia and her 1st place win at NEFERSF. Viktoriia and her mom were also able to share their personal journey to Jacksonville. Viktoriia was inspired by a heartwrenching situation she encountered while escaping Ukraine. As she and her family crossed the border into Romania, they encountered someone who was deaf and mute and communicated using sign language. Because Viktoriia and her family do not know sign language, they were unable to communicate with this person. Due to her compassion for this person, Viktoriia chose to create an interactive website that can translate sign language into English. She is a wonderful example of how science can be used to solve real-world problems and make the world a better place. Her story will air Monday morning, February 27th on News 4 Jax. Congratulations Viktoriia for making St. Paul's so proud!
